About-Face

Background: Each of my kids have chores they have to do every day. Emma's job is putting away the shoes that pile up by the front door.


Emma: [pouting and whining] Putting away shoes is so hard. I hate it. Can't you give me an easier job?

Me: Putting away shoes was the easiest job I could think of to give you.

Emma: [happily] I love putting away shoes. It's my favorite. I don't ever want a different job.


She's a smart one.
